AUSTRALIA is the lowest continent on Earth. It's highest peak Mount Kosciuszko is by far the lowest and easiest to climb of the seven summits.

Having climbed Africa's highest peak Kilimanjaro a couple of years ago I was keen to scale Australia's highest mountain. Following a 550 metre high ascent to the top of the Rams Head Range on a chairlift, a five kilometre walk across alpine heathland brought us to Rawson Pass. From there it was a gentle climb to the summit.

Despite it being a sunny day in the middle of summer with the temperature rising to around thirty degrees in lower altitudes, the temperature here stayed around ten degrees. The wind gusting to over a hundred kilometres per hour created a wind chill bringing the apparent temperature down to around minus five degrees. The wind made the otherwise easy walk into quite a challenge.

I successfully reached the summit, and successfully descended back to civilisation. Now I have achieved two of the seven summits.
