I always find it a little difficult to settle back into city living after having experienced the isolation of a remote area. The contrast is very dramatic when you leave a remote island and return to a busy and noisy city on the same day.
Few places on earth are as isolated as Stewart Island. I still recall the Hare Krishnas who had travelled the world and proclaimed Invercargill to be the far end of the world. Stewart Island lay beyond Invercargill. It stands as the great island wilderness beyond the end of the world.
