THIS was my second climb of Mount Taranaki, the mountain under which I was born. I had successfully reached the summit in my first attempt in 1995, but the mountain had been enveloped in a thick cocoon of cloud.
This time around it was looking a lot more hopeful with not a cloud in the sky. It was a long climb though with sixteen hundred vertical metres to scale before reaching the summit.
This is one of New Zealand's most spectacular mountains, though it has claimed some eighty lives over the years making it one of New Zealand's most dangerous mountains.
