THE SOUTHERN end of Moreton Island narrows to around a kilometre. Here the sand dunes are on the move, covering the forests killing them.

At one set of hills known as the Little Sandhills (though they are huge), the sand blow goes from coast to coast creating a desert of soft sand. In the low valleys between the high sandhills are the remains of the stumps of a forest that had once stood here.
