BESIDE the old wharf at Motueka is the rusting hulk of the Janie Seddon, the first boat used in Tasman Bay's fishing industry. It was retired here many decades ago where it has been slowly rusting away ever since.

Sediment has built up in the inlet in recent decades, so the port has moved a little further along the beach at the main channel. The old wharf is only used for fishing at high tide. There were two men at the end of the stone where some of the rocks had eroded into the estuary.
