I FLEW from Nairobi south to Kilimanjaro Airport in a twin propeller plane flying at almost six kilometres above sea level. It was an impressively high altitude by any standards, flying high above the clouds.
Then I looked out of the window and saw Mount Kilimanjaro in all its glory. The top of the mountain was a little higher than the altitude I was flying at. It was then I realised just how enormous this mountain was. I will be spending the following week on this mountain in an attempt to reach the summit, now just a few kilometres directly out the window.
The prospect of climbing a mountain this high was very daunting. Could I possibly make it all the way to the summit?
