AFRICA'S third highest peak looms precipitously steep on Mount Kilimanjaro. Although the 5100 metre high Mawenzi Peak is dwarfed by the higher Kibo peak, it is far more notorious. One in thirty people who climb this peak die in their attempt.
Misty cloud enshrouds the vertical crags and seracs of the elusive peak. Viewed from about two kilometres away, this was clearly too hard. My goal though was set on reaching Uhuru, the highest summit of Kilimanjaro on Kibo Peak across the vast desert plateau that stretched out ahead of me.
