AT THE southern entrance of the Abel Tasman National Park is a small cafe with a large vegetable garden with all sorts of sculptures around it.
The statues are depictions of Maori local Maori legends. Some look over the garden. Others look out towards the sea to the east. Others look to the mountains that surround the valley.
The name Marahau is the Te Reo (Maori language) word for "Windy Garden". The gnarly tree sculptures in the windswept garden were very fitting.
