AT 140 million years old, the Daintree is the world's oldest rainforest. It has survived countless periods of mass extinction and climate change to survive intact and contain numerous species of prehistoric plant and animal that has otherwise died out in other parts of the world.
Nestled in the coastal fringes of a remote corner of Far North Queensland the forest is drained by the Daintree River, which flows into a large crocodile infested lagoon before draining out into the ocean.
Here at Cape Tribulation, the forest quickly turns to mangrove and touches the coral reef under the shallow waters.
