VIEW over Glasshouse Mountains Village from the summit of Mount Ngungun.

Having left home at 5:00 this morning, I arrived at the base of Mount Ngungun just as the sky was starting to get light. I hurried up the trail by torchlight until near the gorge when it became light enough to see. Surprisingly I met a man descending. Why had he not stayed there to see the sunrise?

I arrived at the summit a couple of minutes before sunrise. There was one other man up there. To my surprise there was a strong cold westerly wind buffeting the summit. It had been quite calm down the bottom of the hill.

The sunrise was rather uneventful with the complete absence of cloud in the sky, but as it quickly rose above the horizon it brightly illuminated the surrounding volcanic plugs that make up the Glasshouse Mountains. Their long shadows pointed westward towards the direction of the cold winds. The shadows quickly diminished as the sun continued rising clearing away the coldness of the night into a glorious 26 degree cloudless winter's day.
