RUNNING just below the ridge at Mount Glorious is a three kilometre trail through the rainforest. This is the Westside Track. It isn't as well maintained as the more popular Greenes Falls trails on the other side of the ridge. In places the trail is overgrown and several large trees and slips.

It is late in the spring dry season here. Much of the life has been sapped out of the forest. The grey trunks of the trees tower above the purple forest litter that drapes the precipitous terrain plunging some four hundred metres into the Brisbane Valley below.

The storm season is near. When it comes it will bring the sleeping forest back to life again.
