THE FULL moon was due to rise shortly after sunset, but cloud cover over the lower half of the sky made this appear very unlikely. The expectations were low.

However the full moon did rise, its brilliance pieced through the layers of cloud and thick blanket of smoke haze that had drifted north from recent bushfires in Victoria some 1300 kilometres away.

The lights of a convoy of ships that had left the Port of Brisbane earlier today grazed the horizon as they slowly drifted north.

In stark contrast the rusted remains of the shipwreck Dicky lay nearby to the right getting hammered out of existence by the large waves breaking on the beach.

The brilliant full moon began to illuminate the eastern sky with its shades of grey to replace the palette of brilliant sunset colour now slinking silently into towards the west behind the sand dunes.
