THE FOREST was filled with the distinctive tinkling sounds of numerous bellbirds hidden in the canopy of the cedar gum trees.
I set off from the Wivenhoe Inlet exploring one of the management trails heading up and down across the top of the ridge heading westward through cedar forest with the odd pocket of rainforest. The main trail was a well graded 4WD track. There were a couple of other trails leading off the main one, but no signage to indicate where they were going. Time to get a topographical map of the area.
I returned to the lookout from where I could see Lake Wivenhoe in the distance through a gap in the trees. From here it seemed rather insignificant especially given its capacity holding a cubic kilometre of water. I was a long way from it though, up on the range in the midst of the huge cedar forest.
