HALF a metre of rain had fallen at Landsborough over the past two days. The heavy rain system feeding Cyclone Marcia was at its heaviest here. The Blackall Range created a natural barrier to the cloud getting through.
The nearby lake at Ewan Maddock Dam was full before the cyclone, so the water rose flooding the trail running along its edge. I was surprised there were no signs saying the track was closed, for almost every other track in South-East Queensland was closed this weekend due to the extreme weather.
The track here had turned into one long channel of floodwater, already starting to stain the distinctive ochre colour of the surrounding vegetation. Almost all of the trail is just above the lake, so much of it would have been flooded today. This meant no hiking for me today.
