ALTHOUGH an SLR normally produces a far superior quality of images in a wide range of situations. There are times though when conditions become too difficult to use a bulky SLR.
The SLR isn't waterproof, plus it is very heavy to lug around everywhere. There were some situations coming up where I would require something a lot more compact, waterproof and able to cope with the other heavy duty demands of my outdoor lifestyle.
There have been a number of tough compact cameras released in recent years, but the quality has always been pretty low. They have always only done Jpeg format. Whilst researching what was now available I came across the Olympus TG-4, the only compact tough camera that does raw format and has an awesome macro mode - something I don't have yet in my SLR. This was miles ahead of all the rest of the tough compact cameras currently on the market. This was what I was looking for.
