HEADING across the Tasman through the day, I arrived in Christchurch with enough daylight left to explore the inner city.
This was the first time I have entered the inner city since the earthquakes of 2011. Back then the entire CBD had been fenced off and guarded by soldiers. Seven years on and the city is 0pen for business with most high rise buildings removed with construction of their replacements commencing.
Once the centrepiece of the City towering over Cathedral Square, the Anglican cathedral now lies in ruins slowly crumbling away under the weeds freely growing in this abandoned site. Pigeons now nest in the lofty beams of the cavenous nave once alive with the echoes of sacred chorus.
