I’M ON the ferry now, and it’s early, around 9:00. We’re on our way to start the W Trek. Today we’re doing a day walk starting from tonight’s base heading up a valley and coming back. Looks like a good day for it. OK we’ve just reached the first viewpoint at Laguna Los Patos so I’ll just head up the little hill here and have a look at the spectacular lagoon. There’s the spectacular lagoon with the sun coming out. There’s lots of trees here and this is an old glacial lake by the looks of it with the main mountains over there. Well I’m just heading through the bush. We’re doing one of the legs of the W circuit as this is a one-way track that goes up to a couple of viewpoints and then back out. I’m not sure which viewpoint we’re going to get to but it heads around the back of the main mountains. So, I’ll see you up at the next viewpoint. We’re up on another lookout now overlooking the glacial lake. You can see quite a few icebergs carved out from the glaciers and blow down up against the bays there. It’s been quite along hike up and down and we’ve finally made it. Well now we’re at the main lookout. You can see the glacier in the background there. We’re stopping here for lunch. Some of the younger ones are going to keep on going to another lookout further along the bay out there. From this point I’m going to be heading back. There’s lots of little icebergs in the water here. A huge glacier out the back so I’m going to do some photography as there’s a really good view of it. Anyway, I’m going to rest up here, have lunch and head back to rest for tomorrow’s big trek. |
