Well good morning friends. Today I'm at Beerburrum just under the summit of Mount Beerburrum. I'm actually here trying out a new track today. In the past I've been up here to Mount Beerburrum a few times but there is a new track, the Yul-yan-man track. It is about 9 kilometres return to here. So I'm going to be going along the top of the Trachyte Range and then I'll go onto Jack Ferris Lookout. Then from there depending on how I am, I may even go around the back of Tibrogargan, then back here. So it's a nice long circuit today. It's a very clear day today so come join with me as I explore this new track.

Well friends I've now made it up to the top of the Jack Ferris Lookout. This is the last of the hills of the Trachyte Range. As you would have seen in the video I've climbed just about every peak from after Mount Beerburrum right out to here, about five or six peaks in all I've climbed - I've lost count. That track was really amazing, but a little difficult with a lot of up and down so the progress was a little slow. I had at one stage intended to head down there then around Tibrogargan and then back. If I do that long circuit it will probably get dark and also the water supplies are getting a bit low so I'm going to head back to the junction you saw just before and then keep going and follow the Soldier Settlers Track. That's another one I haven't previously done.

I have been here (the lookout) before, you'll see in past diaries from quite a few years ago I was up here. In past diaries I've walked around Tibrogargan, I've done the Trachyte Circuit in 2013. In 2012 I climbed Mount Tibrogargan. I have also done Tiberoowuccum back in 2014 as well. You can see Mount Ngungun which I've done several times, but not lately. Directly behind that is Mount Coochin which I did a few weeks ago. Further behind you have the Blackall Range with Maleny and places like that. In the past the only track I have not done around here is this one I've just done and now I know why it's rated quite difficult. I haven't done the Settler's Track either. Obviously I will be doing that now as I have to get back to Beerburrum.

Not many people on the track today. The weather's just starting to cool down a bit for the coming winter which will be the ideal climbing time. This is when a lot of people start hiking up here. Quite a few do get stuck. There's been a lot of rescues on Tibrogargan, a lot of helicopter rescues. There's been a few on Mount Ngungun. A young fellow died there last week climbing it, it can be quite dangerous on the cliff you can see at the front here. Then there's Mount Beerwah. I have been to the bottom of it. I've never climbed it. It's steep and quite dangerous as well with rock falls. A lot of people do climb it, but it's a bit beyond me. Behind Tiberoowuccum you have the really steep one, Crookneck, or Coonoorin. That has been closed to climbers for a very long time. The rocks up there are very unstable and it's vertical on all sides. Anyway I've done about six little ones today. There's Mount Beerburrum just visible through the trees there along with the other peaks I've been over today. That's quite a good achievement. I had originally planned to do the long circuit but this has taken a bit longer than expected so I'll just go straight down the Soldiers Settlement Track which I've never done before.

Well friends I've now completed the circuit. It was quite a big one taking quite a while, especially the bit over the tops. I'm back with plenty of daylight left. It's been a great adventure today so thanks for joining me on this little trek on the circuit over the Trachyte Range. So I'll see you somewhere next time. Ciao for now.
