Hello friends. Today I'm exploring again back up in the Glasshouse Mountains exploring around the base of Mount Tibrogargan today. I've just come down from Glasshouse Mountains Village. I haven't done this part of the track before so let's see how it goes.

I'm over half way around the mountain now. Just behind me is Mount Cooee, just a very small one which doesn't have a track up it but I think it is climbable. The mountain is up in this direction but there are very few views of it from the track. Mount Tibrogargan stands 364 metres above sea level with the summit nearly 300 metres above where I'm standing here. When it erupted, the ground was level with what is now the summit. The volcano that formed above it has completely eroded. The sandstone it formed over has eroded as well down to its current level leaving the volcanic plug behind which was once underground. This is the case with all the Glasshouse Mountains apart from Mount Beerwah which rises above what the ground level was 22 million years ago. Here I'm around 250 metres below the summit of Tibrogargan so at the time it erupted this would have been about 250 metres underground. Anyway I'm doing the Round the Mountain loop. It is quite an interesting countryside. I did summit the mountain once in 2012. You can see those trees sticking out over the edge there that's where I got to (after reaching the summit) just over this side of the mountain. Obviously this side is extremely steep. Even the regular way up goes up over 45 degrees making it quite a serious climb. You can hear people up there now. They do climb up these steep sides of the mountain but today I'll just stick to the main track and a couple of little side tracks around it.

Well friends I'm almost at the end of the trail now. It's been an interesting one today going around Mount Tibrogargan and also doing part of the Trachyte Circuit. At this point my right boot is falling apart so tonight I'll be putting these boots into retirement. They have lasted a long time having done quite a few trips around a couple of continents particularly through Antarctica and all through Patagonia, through Stewart Island and also numerous hikes around here and in a few other areas as well. They are falling apart now, so it's time to put them into retirement and get some new ones and perhaps plan a longer trip as well. Anyway the end's just up here. Thanks friends for joining me again and I'll catch you somewhere else next time. In the meantime, ciao for now.
