IT WAS late morning before I got the motivation to head out again. Having been impressed with Scrub Road Remote Bush Camp, I checked the bookings - there were none tonight, so I booked a space and headed back up towards Mount Nebo Road.
Not wanting to track the same tracks as I had done yesterday, I aimed to reach the camp from the northern branch of South Boundary Road. Calculating the amount of time I had before needing to arrive before sunset, I decuded I could start from the Boombana Park and picnic area. It was mid afternoon when I arrived. There was nobody else in the park, probably because the toilets there were closed for renovation. Setting off from the park, I followed Thylogale Track, a nice easy walking track passing through Kauri rainforest for quite a while before reaching South Boundary Road near where it ends at Mount Nebo Road. From here I followed the much wider track generally descending as it undulated across the small hills along the top of the ridge. I pass junctions to Township Break and Augies Road which head westward towards Ipswich. The sun sinks lower in the sky as I continue along the trail towards Scrub Road Camp. The birds in the forest canopy high above are noisy. I recognise the birdcalls, but see very few, apart from a couple of black cockatoos which I seldom see as they tend to stay in the forests as opposed to their white cousins.
I arrived at the camp shortly before sunset, allowing me enough time to set up the little swag tent and set up dinner on the picnic table in the shelter. It is a peaceful evening with perfect weather in this quiet remote camp.
