WITH just twelve kilometres to hike today, I decided to have a relaxing morning at the waterhole watching the sun rise and the morning sunlight coming through before returning to pack up the tent.

It was nearly mid morning when I did leave Wandi Waterhole to hike back to Neeb's Waterhole. After the junction and the first low hill, I crossed the small stream before following the long trail through the grassy forest as clouds started covering the sky. The sun came out again just before I reached Cooloola Way, where three rangers were parked ready to start work for the day, which I assumed involved clearing some of the undergrowth closing in on the short section of track ahead of me.

I crossed over the low hill before descending into the swampy heathland. The clouds were quite thick now, but no rain was falling. I spotted some sundews growing next to the track as I crossed to the other side entering the forest and wading through the knee deep section of creek running along the track.

Once past the creek, the track rose crossing a few small hills before descending to the Neeb's Service Track junction. From here the main track followed above the side of the lower waterhole for twenty minutes to Neeb's Waterhole camp. Here I pitched the tent in a good spot where I will be staying for two nights.

Once settled I headed up to the ford and explored some of the erosion and deposited sand for a while before returning to the campsite and having dinner overlooking the waterholes. The clouds cleared as the sun set giving some amazing starry skies through the clearing as I settled in for the night.
