WAKING up in Port Phillip Bay, I headed up onto the deck. The first light of the dawn was appearing with the towering highrises of Melbourne to the left of the centre of the light. Looking forward, Geelong was only about twenty kilometres away.

I watched the sunrise as the sky quickly covered in cloud. The ship pulled up at the terminal and we all disembarked. I hiked about a kilometre to the nearest train station and caught it into Southern Cross in Melbourne (though we had to change to a bus about half way in due to weekend track work).

With several hours before I needed to head to the airport, I put my bags into storage and walked around the city under the thick overcast sky, heading up as far as Federation Square before taking another route back. Once back at Southern Cross Station, I took a bus to the airport.

Rain started falling before I boarded the plane. Taking off from Melbourne Airport we quickly passed through the layers of raincloud up into the bright blue sky above, and flew for an hour and a half watching the sunset before descending into Brisbane in the darkness of the early evening.
