HAVING completed all the tours, I was now ready to start heading home. Checking out of the hotel and crossing the road to the Hobart Transit Centre, I caught a bus up to Launceston, heading out of town under sunny skies and doing the long journey through farmland in rolling hills and historical villages, eventually reaching the Launceston Transit Centre where I transferred to another bus heading up to Devonport.

Heading across the top of the island, I eventually arrived in Devonport with several hours to spare before boarding the ferry. The terminal was directly across the river and a footpath led upstream to cross the river and head down the other side over about four kilometres. With nothing else to do I hiked along the track crossing the bridge and reaching the terminal, going a little further to a part where I watched the ferry arrive from a day crossing from Geelong.

Checking in at the ferry terminal, I climbed on board, settled in the cabin and headed up to the deck to watch the brightly coloured dusk before the ship departed turning around in the narrow river channel before setting off out into Bass Strait for an overnight crossing towards Geelong.
