Well greetings again from the Kakadu National Park. Today we are exploring a really interesting escarpment deep in Arnhem Land in Kakadu National Park. It is a very culturally significant area here. It is meant to be the place of the lightning man. There is a lot of lightning and thunderstorms during the wet season and they believe this is where the lightning man comes from. We've just been to some caves further down seeing some more rock images and exploring. There's some amazing scenery all around us here. These rocks are about one and a half billion years old so they have been around for a very very long time. These are very interesting formations of sedimentary conglomerates. There are a lot of caves here no doubt with more cave drawings. Today I continue to explore Kakadu National Park and continuing onto Katherine.

At the moment I'm exploring Barramundi Gorge in a very remote little corner of the park. The park is enormous being about twenty thousand square kilometres. It is massive and absolutely beautiful. I'm just beside one of the pools here. There is quite a long walk along the rocks here and through the gorge to a spectacular waterfall. It is a little bit crowded there so I thought I'd do my video for today out here. There is a bunch of fish in the water here. I don't think they are barramundi as they are quite big. This is the gorge and it is very spectacular. We are exploring quite a few areas today and seeing more cave paintings and following some more walkways. There are quite a few spots here and tonight we are heading to Katherine. I'm just exploring the gorge now and it is a very warm day in the mid thirties so hiking is a bit tough in the heat. Despite that it is very beautiful in here in this nice jungle and a really good area to explore and it is hard to believe it is still winter. Anyway I'd better keep going along this track.

OK we've now reached the southern extreme of Kakadu National Park. There is a nice little lookout here looking out to the plains and the hills across the vast Kakadu National Park. This is Australia's largest land-based national park. The only park here in Australia that is bigger is the Great Barrier Reef. It has been very interesting going through the park and there is a lot more bush to go through and a lot more destinations to travel to, but spending two days exploring Kakadu National Park is drawing to a close. It has been very interesting seeing some amazing both cultural and natural history. There were a lot of Aboriginal rock paintings along the main paths they used to cross through here. Many of them were thousands of years old and carved into rock that is billions of years old, a good one and a half to perhaps two billion years old. This is a truly ancient landscape through here. From here we are heading out of the park going south and to Pine Gap, which I think is our next stop, an old gold mining town. Thanks friends for joining us again today and I shall catch you somewhere else tomorrow. Ciao for now.
