Well good morning friends. It is day 3 on the Larapinta Trail and today we're heading around the Ormiston Pound Track, a nice little circuit from our base camp. The sun is just rising at the moment off over there behind the mountains. We are heading around the circuit down there before heading into the gorge so it is a relatively short day today. We left while it was still dark allowing us to be up here for the sunrise and then continuing and hopefully returning before lunch time. It's a short day today so come join with me as I explore this nice little corner of the park. Okay friends we've almost finished crossing the lowlands of Ormiston Pound, soon to go into the gorge. It's going to get quite wet but really exciting. It is absolutely spectacular here. Well friends I've now made it up to the Ghost Gum Lookout, named after this ghost gum here. It is quite outstanding. Looking over here you can see the gorge which I have just climbed out of. Down below me there is a nice spot and over there is the base camp. All the walking for the day is now finished. It was a relatively short day today in perhaps some of the most spectacular part of this whole area. It has been a really nice walk and very quiet. We didn't see anyone for almost the entire hike. We started off going up through that valley and did a round trip around the mountain and through the gorge. Now I'm up here about to head back down to the base camp. Well friends, I'm now back in the Ormiston Gorge. I'm almost directly below the last lookout I was at along the trail I did this morning. Following a very restful afternoon I'm back down here relaxing. On that note it is time for me to call it a day so thanks friends for joining me again today and I'll catch you somewhere else on the Larapinta Trail tomorrow. So until then, ciao for now. |
