Today's Journey
I watch the New Year fireworks on Coolangatta Beach, an hour after another fireworks display bringing in the New Year in New South Wales. |
I head about half way along the Gold Coast to Tallebudgera Creek to watch the sunrise. Burleigh Head on the other side of the estuary is another part of the Tweed Volcano which reaches the coast. |
From Burleigh Head, I go further northward along the coast to the bustling Surfer's Paradise. |
Walking along Cavill Street Mall, I reach the famous sign leading to the beach. |
Above the beach stands enormous high rise residential towers rising to the clouds. |
There are still a few older buildings surviving from the days when the city was once an isolated holiday destination. |
I head out onto the beach to catch the rays of sunlight before the lengthening shadows of the buildings cover the beach. |
Returning to the city centre, I head up the Q1, the Australia's tallest building standing 320 metres high. |
From the observation deck on the 77th floor, I look over the rugged mountains of the Tweed Volcano seeing the crater rim and Mount Warning as the sun prepares to set. |
When the sun sets, the city comes to life far below the observation deck where I stand. |
