Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey takes me through China eventually arriving in Bejing. Once settled, I discover two large Buddhist and Confuscian temples.

Today's Journey

Early morning in the tiny train cabin with three bunk levels as we continue chugging along towards Beijing.

The dim sun climbs in the very thick hazy Chinese sky and we are still a long way from Beijing.

The cities get bigger and bigger, so it's hard to tell whether I'm already in Beijing. Thick smoke from the diesel engines at the front of the train has coated the windows in thick soot.

After a while I decide this is definitely Beijing, a sprawing city of high rises and very busy roads, a stark contrast of the solemn quietness of the Democratic Republic of Korea.

Arriving in Beijing Station in the late morning, over 24 hours after leaving Pyongyang.

Exploring some of the central city hutongs and apartment block areas of Beijing.

I head to the nearby Lama Temple - a vibrant Tibetan Buddhist temple complex.

The temple is separated into numerous sections by walled gates. Through each gate is a higher level of spirituality.

Heading across the road to the Beijing Temple of Confucius built in 1302.

View to the Confucius Temple and the Imperial College which is still operating to this day.
