Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey continues through Siberia towards Moscow stopping at Omsk in the morning and Yekaterinburg in the evening.

Today's Journey

The sun rises behind us as we continue through the remote wilderness of western Siberia.

Frost covers the ground under the hazy sky.

We stop in the city of Omsk for about half an hour as half the occupants of my cabin disembark giving the rest of us a bit more breathing space for the remaining 2236 kilometres to Moscow.

After leaving the station we cross the Irtysh River before continuing our journey across Siberia. This is the main tributary of the Ob River and also the longest tributary in the world at 4248km flowing from where the borders of Russia, Mongolia and western China meet.

A house set in a silver birch forest in full colour. About 90% of the Trans-Siberian crossing is through silver birch forest.

Passing more forest now getting quite close to the northern border of Kazakhstan.

Crossing a swampy river as we continue along the lowlands.

Stopping at a small city railway station where a small stall sells food on the platform.

Vapour trails crossing Siberia all going towards Moscow another full day and a half away. Not long after dark, we arrive in Yekaterinburg where a railway worker joins us in our cabin.
