Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey takes me into Nairobi City, then onto the nearby animal orphanage and giraffe sanctuary. From there we return to the city to the famous natural history museum.
Today's Journey
Nairobi city centre in the morning. Although we are only a little south of the equator, the high altitude here above the edge of the rift valley makes for a surprisingly cold morning especially after the heat of Dubai. |
I head to the Nairobi animal orphanage with many species of bird and mammal being looked after. |
A leopard rests in the grass in the cool overcast morning. |
A monkey rests in a tree inside its cage. Most animals here show little activity during the daytime. |
Heading to the nearby giraffe sanctuary. |
Feeding one of the giraffe from an elevated viewing platform. |
Returning to the crowded city centre through very disorganised traffic. |
Visiting the Nairobi National Museum. The museum has the skulls of numerous human species from several million years, including the famous Lucy skeleton. |
One of the many skulls of all the human species from the rift valley, where modern humans evolved. |
A giant snake in one of the animal enclosures at the museum. Its muscular body is at least 30 centimetres in diameter and 6 metres long. |
