Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey takes me back into Nairobi from where I catch a plane flying into Tanzania passing close to the massive Mount Kilimanjaro. Upon landing at Aruba, I head around the mountain to the Marangu Village at its base.

Negotiating the road now very muddy from the overnight rain. Fortunately we are able to get out. Other vehicles here have had problems with getting bogged. |

Eventually we return to sealed road as we cross the Rift Valley heading back towards Nairobi. There are many potholes in the road, but there is no risk of getting bogged. |

The cloud cover is endless so it was good to have seen the rift valley from ground level. |

Passing the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro towering above the highest clouds. The summit is higher than our cruising altitude at 5400 metres. It looks very ominous and I now seriously doubt I'll be able to successfully climb it. |

After landing at Kilimanjaro Airport, a one hour trip around the mountain takes me to the Marangu Hotel where I am staying before and after the climb. |
