Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey takes me from QE II Park heading south westward out of the rift valley and crossing the mountains to a sacred hot spring where people come from far and wide for healing. From there we stop in a small dusty town before heading into the precarious mountains of the Bwindi Impenetrable Mountains near the edge of the Congo.
Today's Journey
Leaving the ecolodge in the early morning, we head across the bottom of the rift valley. |
A baboon and her baby beside the road. |
Rising above the rift valley into the mountains. |
We stop here at Kitigata hot spring where people travel to from all over the country to get healing from all sorts of ailments. The pool is heated by the welling magma deep beneath the surface splitting the continent apart. |
The mountains become more rugged with fields of tea covering them. |
We stop here for lunch here in Rubaare before heading back into the mountains. |
The farmland becomes more rugged and the mountains higher as we follow the rough gravel road towards the Congo. |
A village perches at the edge of the hills and terraces of farmland over where the jungle has been cleared. |
The road gets rougher as it passes increasingly high mountains until we eventually reach the base of the Bwindi Impenetrable Mountains where we will be based for a couple of days. |

My ecolodge tent for the next three nights in the remote village of Rubigiri. |
