Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey follows the coast track southward from Bark Bay heading over the hills until reaching Torrent Bay. The tide has come in so I follow the high tide track up to Cleopatra's Pool, then across to Anchorage camping ground.

Today's Journey

Rain has fallen overnight and clouds hang low over the hills. Fortunately the rain mostly stops falling in the early morning and is forecast to clear.

Crossing the swingbridge over Falls River swollen from the overnight rain. The track once went right down to the river and hikers had to ford across. Back in those days the river would be dangerous to cross in this weather.

Following another hour of traversing the rugged hills, the track descends into Torrent Bay village. There is a route across the estuary but the tide is coming in and I have plan to explore around its back.

Following the high tide track heading upstream along the Torrent River as it fills with the tide. The water is ochre coloured from leached vegetation from the forest upstream.

At the bridge across the river, I head about ten minutes upstream to Cleopatra's Pool where a small waterfall of cold water cascades into it.

Returning downstream along the track before crossing the bridge and following the estuary on the other side.

The track begins a long ascent, so I take a shortcut down to the estuary where I get this view upstream as the tides flood the sand flats.

I follow the side of the estuary until reaching this point where a short track crosses over to Anchorage Beach. This view looks back across the estuary towards Torrent River.

Crossing the short and steep trail, I reach Anchorage Beach. The clouds have mostly cleared but there is still a strong swell coming up on the beach. From here I follow the beach for about a kilometre before reaching the Anchorage camping ground.

Returning to the beach in the evening shortly before the sun sets. The weather has cleared ready for a cool evening.
