Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey explores Wellington, heading around to the other side of the harbour, before exploring the rugged hills above the city.
Today's Journey
Early morning looking over Lyall Bay and the airport and across to the other side of Wellington Harbour where the 1881 Wairarapa earthquake was centred, raising the land in the distance 6 metres out of the water. |
Heading across to the far side of Wellington Harbour where we explore the rocky beach. |
Returning to the city centre where we explore the Beehive, the base of New Zealand's political leaders. |
Heading up a hill behind the city to get an idea of how mountainous this area is. |
Passing Camberdown Studios where a lot of the Lord of the Rings was filmed and produced. |
Exploring the pine forest on Mount Victoria, where parts of the Lord of the Rings was filmed. |
The pine trees are old and gnarly on this exposed hill. |
A rocky outcrop near the airport overlooking Cook Strait. |
Heading to the other end of the airport, we reach a wharf where the ship used in the 2005 King Kong movie is moored. |
I return to the city and take the cable car up the hill behind the city. |
