Introduction to today's journey

Today's journey takes us back downstream to where a van awaits us taking us back through the jungle to Puerto Maldonado. There we catch a plane across the Andes to the Peruvian capital city of Lima, on the west coast to our accommodation overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Miraflores.

The plane stops off in Cusco to pick up more passengers. When the plane doors open all the air escapes making it hard to breathe again.

We take off again and land at Lima Airport next to the Pacific Ocean. From the airport we travel along the coast road southwards towards the suburb of Miraflores.

After settling in at Miraflores, we head out to the lookout at the top of the cliff to watch the sunset. We are near the main fault line running just off the coast of the entire South American continent, where the Nazca plate rides underneath the South American Plate, lifting it creating the spectacular Andes. The loose cliffs make this a precarious place to be if there was a big earthquake.

The lights of the city come out as the sky quickly darkens on this cool evening.
