Introduction to today's journey
Today's journey takes me from Jersey City through the metro system across Manhattan Island to JFK Airport from where I take one of the world's longest domestic flights to Honolulu. I arrive in Honolulu with a short amount of time to explore the coast and watch a spectacular sunset.
Today's Journey
Catching the subway from Jersey City into Manhattan, then onto JFK Airport. |
Arriving at JFK airport to catch one of the world's longest domestic flights. |
Flying across the USA east coast over Seattle before continuing across to Honolulu, where there is a five hour time difference from New York. |
Flying into Honolulu Airport ten hours after departing JFK. |
I am just over halfway home, but I'm stopping in Hawaii for a few days. After leaving the airport and a quick trip into the middle of Honolulu to check into my hotel, I head to nearby Waikiki Beach on a small jetty. It is much warmer here than northern USA with some tropical rain falling in the hills. It feels even more tropical than Florida. |
Watching the sunset from Waikiki Beach as the sky quickly darkens. |
I almost think it is over when the sky suddenly lights on fire for the first of of what will be several spectacular Hawaiian sunsets. |
The sky and sea glow orange as surfers and boaties still stay out on the sea. These are the remotest islands in the world, with only a few islands dotted in the ocean between here and Australasia some 11,000 kilometres away. |
The sky only gets brighter farwelling the long day. |
Now the lights of Honolulu come on for the nightlife. I turn in for an early night with a big day exploring the island tomorrow. |
