I HAD been in my new flat for about three months but still hadn't explored the local area. I had plenty of work and wasn't motivated to explore the local area during the weekends. I decided today would be a perfect time to see if I could find any local reserves to explore.
I left the house and walked up the road and across a block to where I had seen a large area of bush and had been meaning to explore it. I headed across the road to find an entrance and a large sign saying "Chermside Hills Reserve". I entered and found a well formed unnamed walking track. I turned left and started following it heading up the hill about fifty to a hundred metres in from the road.
The soil was a poor quality sandstone covered in a eucalypt forest with many grass trees growing on the undergrowth. Aside from the grass trees there was little other undergrowth. The track rose to the top of a hill before descending beside a ridge through the open forest. A couple of steep gullies had little wooden bridges crossing them, but otherwise the track was just well worn soil meandering its way around the hills.
The track occasionally crossed a large firebreak, so I made a note to explore these firebreaks at a later date. There were also a few more short tracks heading to other entrances in different residential areas surrounding the reserve. The track continued heading around the reserve clockwise until eventually closing the circuit reaching the entrance where I had arrived.
