Introduction to today's journey
BROWN Station was built in Paradise Harbour in 1951 by the Argentine navy. It was taken over by the Argentine Antarctic Institute in 1964 to become one of the most best biological laboratories on the peninsula. The base was burnt down in 1984 by a doctor who had been unexpectedly ordered to stay there over winter and didn't at all like the idea. Fortunately the inhabitants were rescued and evacuated to a nearby United States base. Brown Station was rebuilt to house 18 people but has only since been used in summer.
Today's journey continues heading north east along the peninsula stopping at Cuverville Island to kayak in a deep fiord and visit a large penguin colony. From there we head to nearby Neko Harbour for another landing. Towards the end of the day we continue to the well named Paradise Harbour for another spectacular sunset zodiac cruise exploring the area around Brown Station.
