Introduction to today's journey
THE PEACEFUL countryside around Gettysburg could be like any other, if it were not for the countless memorials to soldiers fallen in the great battle here in 1863. It was here the armies of the North and South fought, and from where Abraham Lincoln was to deliver his famous speech to raise him to becoming perhaps the most respected president in history.
Today's journey begins in Lancaster, where I travel through the fog into Gettysberg, exploring the town and fields where the battles were famously fought, much of which remains perfectly preserved to this day. After exploring Gettysburg, I head back towards the coast arriving in Washington D.C.
