Introduction to today's journey
THE CAPITAL city of Washington D.C. stands proud. The Mall is a spectacular green extending for two miles in an east-west direction. At the eastern end is Capitol Hill, where all the federal politicians meet. At the other end two miles away is the Lincoln Memorial. Towering in the middle of The Mall is the Washington Monument. At the Lincoln memorial end is the reflecting pool, surrounded by memorials of various wars the United States has been involved in. On the other side, The Mall is flanked by the impressive Smithsonian Museums. Tucked away to the north of The Mall stands The White House, and behind that is the business district of Washington D.C.
Today's journey takes me into the eastern side of The Mall, from where I follow it all the way to the Lincoln Memorial, then return diverting to the numerous memorials, the White House, and several museums before exploring the inner city.
