I SPENT the morning walking across the volcanic terrain of Cape Moreton before hiking down the exposed east coast of the island for about ten kilometres down to Blue Lagoon, a large permanent land locked body of fresh water surrounded by sand hills.
I explored the area in the afternoon and returned to the side of the lake in the late afternoon to watch the spectacular sunset. The dust from the distant western deserts illuminated the altostratus clouds in soft pinks and purples with yellow highlights. The sunset caused the Blue Lagoon to change colour to purple, then eventually black as the darkness of night set in.
