I WALKED the first sixteen kilometres of the Abel Tasman National Park from Marahau to Anchorage, then back again on the same day. It was a very long walk but without a heavy backpack to lug this was a pleasant walk through the forest over steep bluffs above the golden beaches.
The tide was full in the late morning flooding the little estuaries with clear turquoise water. On the way out of the park during the afternoon the tide had gone out drying the estuaries and exposing a lot more beach.
