I FLEW the short twenty minute flight across Cook Strait from Nelson to Wellington, a trip that would have otherwise taken a good six to eight hours by driving and taking the ferry.
Upon reaching Wellington I travelled the mountainous terrain to a large wind generator in what must be one of the windiest parts of New Zealand, where the prevailing winds funnel between the two islands creating a strong cold blast.
The city filled the valleys between the ridges. Given how mountainous the terrain is here, it is amazing such rugged landscape can support a medium sized city.
