IN THE most rugged part of the Abel Tasman National Park, the trail climbs over the steep hills between the bays. At the bottom of the steepest section a high swingbridge crosses precariously over the Falls River, which tumbles down cascade after cascade to the serene estuary behind Sandfly Bay. Here temperate cloud forest almost touches the turquoise sea water that floods the estuary twice daily.
