HEAVY rain fell all day whilst I shopped in Hoi An, the shopper's paradise that has been a world famous market since the 1700s. The local rivers were just centimetres away from bursting their banks.
Two weeks ago the water was three metres higher flooding most of the shops. Despite the inundation from the muddy flood waters, the shops have all reopened and continue to trade normally. In some of the shops I could still see how high up the walls the water had reached.
The flooding had done nothing to dampen the spirits of these tough traders. I spent the evening attending a cooking class whilst the tropical tempest continued outside.
