IT WAS the day before starting the Inca Trail. Upon leaving Cusco the road ascended to a small village at around 3700 metres above sea level.

The villagers were Incan descendants, speaking the ancient Quechua language. They didn't live the lavish life of the Inca. Instead they were simple potato farmers using bullocks to plough their fields.

The villagers were very hospitable putting a few cultural presentations and feeding us with their fresh produce. Here a young girl looks on as the older children of the village put on a cultural dance.
