HALF way between Cusco and Puno is the La Raya Pass at 4338 metres above sea level.
The land around here is very barren and the cold air very thin. Jagged mountains rise from the arid farmland to snow capped peaks under overcast skies.
A market adds a splash of bright colour to this otherwise barren landscape. The stall holders create a lot of activity selling their brightly coloured clothing.
