FLYING over the Tasman Sea on my final leg home from Santiago I saw some interesting cloud formations and pulled out the camera to photograph them.
I accidentally left the circular polariser on my lens, which is something you shouldn't do when photographing out of a plane window. Due to the very high radiation levels outside the plane, the windows are polarised. This creates very interesting colour interference patterns when viewed through a polariser filter.
Normally I would discard such a photo. but the brilliant colours from the interference has made for some very interesting effects in the shot. What is particularly interesting is how the interference patterns suddenly change at the horizon. This has been a real bonus to what would have otherwise been a fairly typical cloud formation shot.
