STANDING solitary off the Sunshine Coast is Mudjimba Island, named after a local plant. A cliff facing out to sea shelters the otherwise low forested island from the big incoming swells.
The HMAS Brisbane was scuttled near here. I recall going on board the ship when it was in Lyttelton Harbour near Christchurch in 1982. It has in recent years been retired and sunken off the coast here to form an artificial reef.
