LAKE Samsonvale has dropped nearly two metres since I last visited it just a few months ago. We are now well in the grip of the dry season. The partially submerged trees offshore were evidence the lake has been at a much lower level due to the 10 year long drought that was broken in 2009. Is this the start of another lengthy drought? I have my doubts. Heavy rain is forecast for this coming weekend and the El Nino conditions that had been forecast for this summer may not come. Fingers crossed. |
