HEADING down to the Gold Coast for the first time in several years I explored the Surfer's Paradise area and ascended its tallest building to the Skypoint Observation deck twice - once in the late morning and again in the late afternoon.
From the Skypoint there were spectacular views of the Gold Coast City strung out along the sandspit between the Pacific Ocean and the channels and canals of the southernmost waters of Moreton Bay. To the west stood the deceptively flat looking mountain plateaux of the Tweed Volcano.
Once the sun set the city brightly illuminated as the vast ocean and the mountains faded into the blackness of night.
